01Our Commitment to Accessibility
Restoration is often a stressful, time-sensitive process. Our website should not add friction to that. We design and build our digital experiences to be perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust for everyone — whether you navigate with a mouse, a keyboard, a screen reader, voice control, or a switch device.
Our target is conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, published by the W3C. We also follow Section 508 guidance where it applies and consider Level AAA criteria when implementation is reasonable.
02What We've Done
The current site implements the following accessibility measures:
- Keyboard navigation: all interactive elements — links, buttons, forms, menus — are reachable and operable using a keyboard alone, in a logical tab order.
- Skip-to-content link: a "Skip to main content" link appears as the first focusable element on every page so keyboard and screen-reader users can bypass navigation.
- Visible focus indicators: a high-contrast gold focus ring appears on every focusable element so keyboard users always know where they are on the page.
- Semantic HTML: we use proper heading levels (one H1 per page, ordered H2/H3), landmark regions (header, nav, main, footer), lists, and form labels so the document outline is meaningful in assistive tech.
- ARIA labels where needed: icon-only buttons, navigation regions, and dialogs include accessible names so they are announced clearly by screen readers.
- Sufficient color contrast: body text and interactive elements meet or exceed WCAG AA contrast ratios against the dark navy background.
- Alt text on imagery: meaningful images include descriptive alternative text; decorative images are marked aria-hidden so screen readers skip them.
- Resizable text: the layout uses relative units and responds gracefully to browser zoom up to 200% without breaking content.
- Reduced motion respected: animations and transitions are disabled or shortened for users with the prefers-reduced-motion system setting enabled.
- Form labels and error messaging: every form input has a visible label and clear, programmatically-associated error text.
- Mobile-first responsive design: the site adapts cleanly to screen widths from 320px through desktop without horizontal scroll or content loss.
- Plain-language content: we write in plain English and avoid unnecessary jargon. Where industry terms appear (IICRC, mitigation, supplements), we explain them in context.
03Ongoing Efforts
Accessibility is a process, not a one-time checkbox. We continue to improve our site through:
- Periodic audits: automated and manual accessibility audits across primary user flows — homepage, services, quote request, and contact — at least once per year and after any significant redesign.
- Assistive-technology testing: spot-checks with NVDA, VoiceOver, and keyboard-only navigation as part of our development process.
- User feedback integration: reports from visitors using assistive technology are treated as bugs and prioritized in our development queue.
- Vendor accountability: when we add a third-party tool (chat widget, scheduling embed, video player), we evaluate its accessibility before deployment and avoid tools that cannot meet our standard.
- Team training: our developers and content team are expected to keep current on WCAG and accessibility patterns.
04Known Limitations
We want to be honest about where we have gaps. Despite our efforts, some content on this site does not yet meet our target conformance level:
- Third-party embeds: some content from external services (mapping, social media feeds, weather widgets) is rendered by code we do not control. We work to choose accessible vendors, but we cannot guarantee third-party output meets WCAG AA at all times.
- Legacy video content: a small number of older case-study videos do not yet have synchronized captions or audio descriptions. We are captioning these as part of our content refresh.
- PDF documents: some downloadable PDFs (older job photos, sample reports) were generated before our accessibility-first PDF process was in place. We are converting key documents to accessible formats and replacing the rest with HTML versions.
- Marquee announcement bar: the scrolling announcement bar at the top of every page repeats its content for visual purposes. The content is fully readable by screen readers in non-scrolling form, and its motion respects prefers-reduced-motion.
- Decorative animations: some sections use subtle background animations. These are non-essential, do not contain content, and are disabled when reduced motion is preferred.
If you encounter a barrier we have not listed here, we want to know. See the Feedback section below.
05Compatible Assistive Technology
We design and test for compatibility with the major assistive technologies in use today, including:
- Screen readers: NVDA and JAWS on Windows; VoiceOver on macOS and iOS; TalkBack on Android.
- Screen magnifiers: ZoomText, macOS Zoom, Windows Magnifier, and browser zoom up to 200%.
- Voice recognition: Dragon NaturallySpeaking and built-in OS voice control on macOS and Windows.
- Keyboard-only navigation across all major browsers.
- Switch and alternative input devices that route through standard browser focus order.
We test in the latest two stable versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. Older browsers may render the site without certain visual effects but should remain fully functional.
06Feedback
If you encounter an accessibility barrier on our website — a feature you can't operate, content you can't reach, or anything that doesn't work the way it should with your assistive technology — please tell us. Your feedback is the fastest path to a fix.
When you reach out, the most helpful information includes:
- The page URL where the issue occurred
- A short description of what you were trying to do
- The browser, operating system, and assistive technology you were using (if relevant)
We aim to respond to accessibility feedback within five business days. If a fix requires a code change, we'll let you know the expected timeline and a workaround if one exists.
